Buffon and Zanetti among hundreds paying last respects to Davide Astori

Gianluigi Buffon and Javier Zanetti were among the mourners in Florence for the funeral of Italy defender Davide Astori.

The 31-year-old was found dead in his hotel room in Udine on Sunday, hours before he was due to lead Fiorentina against Udinese in a Serie A fixture.

Fiorentina and Cagliari – Astori’s club between 2008 and 2016 – retired the number 13 shirt in honour of their former player and on Thursday hundreds of mourners gathered outside the Basilica di Santa Croce for Astori’s funeral.
