Ralph Hasenhuttl’s appointment as Southampton’s new manager appears close, according to reports in Austria.
Football Paradise understands the 51-year-old is the number one candidate to replace Mark Hughes, who parted company with the Premier League strugglers on Monday.
Austrian media outlet Kleine Zeitung reported on Tuesday that Hasenhuttl has signed a deal with the Saints and an announcement over his appointment is imminent.
The former RB Leipzig coach is available after ending his impressive spell with the German club in the summer. He previously coached at Unterhaching, Aalen and Ingolstadt.
Saints and Hughes went their separate ways on Monday, despite a credible 2-2 home draw with Manchester United on Saturday.
Former goalkeeper Kelvin Davis is set to lead them against Tottenham on Wednesday, searching for what would be just a second win of the Premier League season.
“I have got some time period between now and the game and also it’s not about drumming things into them and psyching them up and trying to make them too different from what they are,” said Davis.
“It’s just me trying to give a bit more of my personality to what I’m asking them to do.
“Technically I think we have got fantastic players. There has obviously been something missing that hasn’t been turning those draws into wins.
“Maybe I can add that little bit extra and if we see a little bit of that it might be the difference that gets us the points we need.”
