Liverpool produced a stunning first-half performance to thrash Manchester City 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane struck inside the opening 31 minutes as the Reds, backed by a vociferous crowd, hit City with a whirlwind start.
City, whose bus was attacked on the way into the stadium, were flat and failed to get a shot on target in an underwhelming display.

Star man – Jordan Henderson
The Liverpool captain does not grab as many headlines as his attacking team-mates but his controlled performance in the middle of the field was key to the victory. He gave his team forward thrust in the early stages and his game management in the second half denied City a way back in. The frustration for him was a booking that means he will miss the second leg.
Moment of the match
Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a fine goal against City in January but his latest stunning strike was arguably his best in a Liverpool shirt. The former Arsenal midfielder lashed home from the edge of the box to put his side in a commanding position. It fed an already fervent atmosphere even more and created a momentum that led to the Reds’ third goal.
In the crowd
The build-up to the game was soured by an attack on Manchester City’s team bus by Liverpool supporters. Thousands of fans congregated outside Anfield to greet the arrivals of the teams, initially creating a vibrant atmosphere, but events got out of hand as the City coach was targeted and pelted by missiles, including fireworks, bottles and cans. The bus was damaged significantly and City needed a replacement for their journey away from the stadium. Liverpool issued a statement condemning the perpetrators in the “strongest possible terms” and apologised to City.
