Manchester United will spend Christmas an eye-watering 13 points behind runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City after Harry Maguire secured Leicester a last-gasp draw.
Already reeling from their shock midweek Carabao Cup exit at Bristol City, the need for Jose Mourinho’s men to get back to winning ways was heightened by Pep Guardiola’s team racking up a 17th successive league win earlier in the day.
Juan Mata’s brace looked to have done just that as United responded to Jamie Vardy’s 50th Premier League goal, only for Maguire to strike at the death as 10-man Leicester secured a late 2-2 draw.

Moment of the match
Harry Maguire’s 90th minute goal could have huge repercussions on the title race as United dropped two valuable points against 10-man Leicester at the King Power Stadium. The defender slid in at the far post to connect with Marc Albrighton’s cross – with Chris Smalling injured and unable to cut it out – to deny United a much-needed victory as they try to chase down Manchester City. It meant City, who beat Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday, extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 13 points.
Star man – Juan Mata
The midfielder scored just his second and third goals of the season which cancelled out Jamie Vardy’s opener to cap an industrious evening. Mata added quality to his effort in the middle to haul United back after they had fallen behind against the run of play in the first half. He will have an important role to play over the festive period as United look to, somehow, keep their title challenge alive.
