Paul Pogba has confused football fans on social media with two cryptic posts shared after Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United on Tuesday.
Just minutes after the news of Mourinho’s departure from the club broke, a picture of Paul Pogba frowning at the camera appeared on his Twitter and Instagram accounts with the words: “Caption This!”

The text also included @adidasfootball as well as the hashtag #heretocreate, an Adidas slogan, suggesting the posts were sponsored.
They were deleted quickly but some believed it was an unsubtle dig at Mourinho, who Pogba has famously clashed with in recent months.
Is this the moment that lead to Jose losing the dressing room? 🤔When Mourinho and Pogba fell out on the training pitch 😲 pic.twitter.com/N0daQQEn6v

Former United defender Gary Neville appeared to react unfavourably to the deleted posts on Twitter.
“ Caption This “
You do one as well !

Former United and France captain Patrice Evra called for positivity from everyone involved with the club instead of focusing on individuals.
The thing that is annoying me the most right now is why are people so focused on @paulpogba and Jose Mourinho. Let’s focus on rebuilding something solid instead of being in a playground. Doing this is only disrespecting the badge, from now we only need positivity. #ManUtd #MUFC pic.twitter.com/ClmWqmgf7G

Meanwhile, others suggested the post was scheduled by Pogba’s team and was simply a case of bad timing.
Calm down with the @paulpogba tweet/Insta post. It was probably scheduled in by his management days ago. You can tell because it’s a sponsored post.

Overreacting like this helps nobody. You should know better Gary. He was probably in training and it was likely prescheduled. This is a chance for everyone at the club to finally start pulling in the same direction. Scapegoating Pogba now isn’t going to help anyone.

Adidas has yet to respond to requests for comment about the nature of the post.
