Player Profile : Fabio Borini

Name: Fabio Borini
Position: Center Forward, Attacking Midfielder (Left, Right)
Age: 21 years old (29-03-1991)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 73kg
Nationality: Italy

Borini recently signed for Liverpool  for a fee of £10m, and speculation is still rampant around Andy Carroll’s future at the club. Anyway, there is one thing that is certain – Borini wasn’t brought in to replace the big English center forward.

It seems ever so natural for Borini to be a part of Brendan Rodger’s plan. Unlike the big man, Borini’s man strength doesn’t lie in holding the ball up front but in playing short passes and link up play. He had a passing success rate of 75.7% which is above average for a player in the attacking position but considering that he’s just 21, there is only scope for improvement. Finishing is also Borini’s strength – a problem which the reds need to address after hitting the woodwork more than 30 times last season! As he has shown with his clubs and National team, Borini can play anywhere along the front 3 – a quality that Brendan Rodgers lays importance on to play free flowing attacking football, one with a fluid framework.

Considering that he has worked with Borini during his Chelsea & Swansea days, Brendan knows the player inside out. In Borini, Rodgers has invested in a player who is one for the long run. Liverpool fans need to be patient with this one.

Oh, and Borini also has a special kind of celebration which is actually an Italian saying “knife between your teeth” – which only goes to show Borini’s determination to succeed.

“In Italy, we say when one person wants something so much it is like he has a knife between his teeth – like a warrior who never gives up.”
