Sky is the limit for perfectionist Pedro Caixinha

Pedro Caixinha wants his Rangers players to be as unstinting as he is in their quest for success.

The Portuguese coach has been encouraged by his side’s start to the domestic season following their shock Europa League qualifying exit to Progres Niederkorn of Luxembourg.

A 2-1 win over Motherwell at Fir Park on the opening weekend of the Ladbrokes Premiership season was followed by a 6-0 thrashing of Championship side Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup.

Ahead of the visit of Hibernian to Ibrox on Saturday, Caixinha revealed his delight at the turnaround but insists there is a long way to go.

He said: “It is a good start but we want more, we want to keep progressing. There is no such thing as 100 per cent in football. You need to be aware all the time of the details and points you need to improve in your team. All the time the sky is the limit.

“I am a type of guy who looks and chases the perfection which I know I am not going to get, because when I think I get it I want more. So I want the players to think like that.

“I believe that you need to be focused all the time, with a strong mentality, a strong team spirit. That’s what I believe. But we still have a long journey in front of us.”

Caixinha was pleased to see the enjoyment of his players in a dominant display against the Pars.

He said: “Part of the major points of football is enjoying. When I was a young, 10 or 12, playing in my street, starting at 5pm until 10pm, you are enjoying.

“So that’s what the professional players need to do as well, enjoy the game. And I feel freedom from the team. Of course the second goal gives you that but we worked hard to get it, so I am happy with that, with the ambition they show.”

Caixinha insists Hibs’ 2016 Scottish Cup final win over Rangers will have no impact on the clubs’ first meeting since and paid due respect to Neil Lennon’s side. He said: “I know that we are going to face a great club, a great manager and a great group of players.”
