The best of Portugal v. The Scourge of FIFA

Marvelous, quick, insanely accurate, two-footed, expert marksman, fox in the box, towering header of the ball, trickster, man with the bulletproof attitude. A player so amazing, the comments made by the fat twat who is the unopposed FIFA president were downright insulting and to be fair, f**king retarded. I know you’re entitled to your opinion but that is one thing, to go out on a public forum and discuss it is altogether another.

So this article shall be a mesh of two things – a summation of the year that one man from Portugal has had wearing the legendary number 7 at one of the most intense cauldrons of pressure on Earth and the other about a fat twat who thinks he’s untouchable. One an overachiever, a man who works hard and is the near-perfect example of an athlete, the other a 300 pound slob who is only in charge of world football because no one else wants the job.

Now, starting with this player, this amazing athlete, this, Cristiano – What a man. Yes, he is a cocky personality, yes he styles his hair and drives fast cars and sleeps with the hottest supermodel. But he also reports to training on time, stays back late to practice technique, discusses ideas with the coach and keeps himself at an almost superhuman level of fitness.  And then, he steps onto the pitch – that hallowed ground of the Santiago Bernabeu and he pleases 80,000 fans who come to watch the CR7 show. Dribbles, runs behind the defense, headers which no person should reach, and even tracking back at times with a ferocity rarely seen from the top forwards in the world. The fact that he was born to play in and share the ‘era’ of Lionel Messi is half-shame and a whole-hearted blessing. Without the Barca magician, this perfect model of footballing pedigree and ability would never reach the same heights. He may spend €500 more than Messi at the hairdresser, but so what? When push comes to shove, he is the go to man for Real Madrid. Without his goals, Madrid would at best be a second place side to a Barca side that most teams sit back and defend against because in their mind they’ve lost before they have kicked a ball in the league.

Never, never has any man entered the high-pressure arena of Real Madrid and taken it so well, at almost a goal a game, as spectacularly as Cristiano Ronaldo. Not only that, to come with a world record fee and to then inherit the number seven jersey of hometown hero Raul, to emulate and possibly surpass the legend and to stand alongside the likes of Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul, Morientes, Hugo Sanchez, Butragueno and Di Stefano in the annals of Los Merengues history in a mere four years. This man has been nothing if not committed to the cause of bettering his chances of winning every trophy they compete for. To be honest, at less than 100 million euros, Cristiano Ronaldo is the biggest steal of the 21st century.

Cristiano has matured from his showboating, crying self we so often saw at Manchester United. Yes, the occasional moment of idiocy or egoism creeps in, but is almost immediately batted away by the more mature man we now see and adore. A man who, if I were given the chance, would have without question won the Ballon D’Or at the very least for the last two years. Cristiano Ronaldo may spend time at the hairdresser, but he should. In fact he should go around more often and hang out more with Irina Sheik and he should buy faster cars because these seem to stroke his ego and make him better on and off the pitch. And heck, if most men looked like Cristiano Ronaldo, the doors and other unmentionables would open a heck of a lot easier.

But of course, there are some who are blind to his talent. Some who think a few hours at a hairdresser are not exactly appropriate behavior. That’s really rich coming from a bald hunk of lard such as Sepp Blatter, who has never professionally kicked a football in his life and I am pretty sure if he tried a freekick he would slip and fall on that mound of jelly he calls his backside. The fact that a man who has held the most prestigious position in world football, for almost forever, has his own personal preferences is obvious. The fact that he publicly mocked one over the other is an absolute dip-shitted attitude from the man who is supposed to be balanced, rational and quick thinking. Instead, when he did apologize, it was half-hearted, almost as if he was joking and done with a totally distasteful attitude. After the comments were made public knowledge, Cristiano flew into a rage, mocking the FIFA president. I am surprised that CR managed to keep expletives out of his reply to Sepp Blatter. I would have called him a fat ball of shite at the first chance I got in front of a microphone. After all he is, what has Sepp Blatter done with his life other than hold back the sport we so dearly love? And send the World Cup to Qatar in the summer of course. One must really question what FIFA are upto these days, and why Michel Platini is not in the running for a more powerful position in the footballing hierarchy.

Of course, being a model professional, good-looking and self-assured person that he is, Ronaldo laughed off Blatter’s comments and Real Madrid and their coach and president expressed their ‘deep concern’ and their ‘shock’ at the appalling nature of the comments made about their prized asset. And then Ronaldo replied in the only way he knew how, by scoring a fantastic hattrick in the league at home to a Santiago Bernabeu crowd that was soaking in the glory years of one of the best players to ever grace the game.

I am no crazy fan of Madrid, lord knows I hate Ronaldo’s pompous behavior and swagger at times. But when I look at him, as do most football fans –we feel a twinge. A twinge that if we committed as much to what we as CR does to football, then we would be rich, famous, loved, adored, hated and loathed in equal measure. And we all know we would like to don the jersey of one of the best footballing institutions in the world, to be at the level in whatever we do, we should look to Cristiano for inspiration and for a never say never attitude. There are two types of people. There are the magicians, the Xavis, Iniestas, Pirlos, Messis of the world. And then there are the Ronaldos – who through simply working hard, loving what he does and sticking in and digging deep, achieve greatness, and the love of hundreds of millions all over this globe.

Cristiano Ronaldo, even if he wins just one major title at his time in the capital city of Spain, will forever be remembered as one of the greats of the game. No one remembers who the FIFA president was when Pele, Maradona and other greats took to the field, but to this day the players are revered and admired. And Ronaldo, along with Messi and perhaps Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in that league of players that have etched themselves into the memories of a generation of football fans. To retire someday but never to be forgotten, to give us snapshots of memories that we will take to our graves. This year has been a fantastic one for a football fan – with one of the best players ever hitting his peak. 2013 has been kind to Cristiano and we hope for many more such years to come.

Footnote:

Sepp Blatter could certainly take a leaf out of Cristiano Ronaldo’s handbook on everything, except the hairdresser part, because after all, he is the bald fat twat.
