Steven Gerrard and the Blaze of Glory

Imagine a big day. Any big day.

It could be an exam, a result. It could be an interview call, or your first day of work. The day of your wedding, or the birth of your first child. It could be anything.

Now, gather all those multitude of butterflies in your stomach and multiply them by a quivering drone of 45,000. Imagine being a teenager, having to go to sleep on time, for your first Merseyside Derby at Anfield. Imagine, having to play in front of 45,000, in front of all the people you’ll ever know, and among all your heroes.

Imagine not only having the gumption to turn up, but to score the winning goal. 3-2.

The year was 1999. The year now is 2015. Nothing much has changed. The greatness of Steven George Gerrard is still unparalleled as it was that day. We still sing his songs. In fact, every other club in the country does, now.

The only difference is, he won’t be playing this Derby like it’s his last Derby, as means to pep himself up. This time, it is his last.

Imagine that.

Steven Gerrard the best there is the best there was the best there ever will be
